Having trained in London and completed a Hip Surgery Fellowship in Oxford I was appointed to my Consultant post at Queens Hospital in Burton in 2001. I have helped set up the Hip and Knee replacement service at Queens which has been highlighted as one of the exemplar units in the country for outcome in the National Joint Register (NJR). My own long-term results in the NJR demonstrate extremely low failure rates for Hip and Knee replacements. I carry out in excess of 200 Hip and Knee replacements each year which makes me a high volume surgeon in terms of numbers. I only use implants with a proven track record and have no conflict of interests with industry. I was an early adopter of Enhanced Recovery and led the team that set up the service at Queens Hospital. Our length of stay for patients undergoing Hip and Knee replacement surgery compares favourably to the national average. I have a full time NHS practice at the University Hospitals of Harley Streets and Burton NHS Trust and my private practice activity mirrors this. I have held a number of managerial positions in the NHS including Clinical Lead for Orthopaedics and Trauma from 2007 to 2014 and I am currently Chair of the Medical and Dental Committee at Queens Hospital.
